It’s that time of year again. Valentine’s Day is just around the corner.

The perfect time to celebrate love and affection. Many of us lead very busy lives, and it may be hard for us to find the time to escape the house to enjoy a romantic meal for two at a lovely restaurant, which in an ideal world wouldn’t we all love to do! But for that reason, bringing the romance to your own house is the alternative and is something that can easily be done. Here are some ideas to get you in the V-day mood!

1) Ambient lighting to set the mood

Lighting is one of the easiest things to change when trying to achieve a certain mood, and it is often the most effective. Ambient and low-level lighting is what you want to achieve for this special occasion. Think about keeping all the main lights off, and instead having one or two corner lamps subtly glowing. Hanging up fairy lights is also a great option. They give off a gentle glow, and add warmth and elegance. Perfect for Valentine’s Day!

2) Dress up the bedroom

New colours can be introduced into an interior space without having to redecorate the room from top to bottom. Something as simple as dressing up the bed with a set of warm-toned cushions, or a soft, red throw/blanket. As well as aesthetics, comfort is also key. Opt for a great quality mattress as well as maybe some plump feather pillows.

3) Flowers always work

Flowers are often associated with romance, and rightly so. The simple option would be to have a gorgeous bouquet of flowers in a vase, placed strategically on your dining table. However, there are other more creative ways to utilise flowers and petals. A classic; sprinkling rose petals on the floor, the sideboards, or even the duvet. Another creative option would be placing the petals inside clear, old perfume bottles or ink pots. Let their rich and warming colours beautify your space!

4) Use candles

This is really the final step to creating a romantic atmosphere. This tip relates closely to ambient lighting, but the unique flickering effect of a candle light flame is the cherry on the cake. You can be extra creative when choosing candles for your space. The smell of a space can be considered important. That’s when we would recommend scented candles. Small candles are also an option. Dot them around your room, or try creating a word or shape with them, such as a heart!

We hope this has got you into the V-day mood and inspired you to be creative when it comes to decorating your own interior spaces for this special occasion. Embrace the romance!
